First Year Graduate Seminar in Philosophy This course is designed to introduce first-year PhD students to graduate coursework in philosophy. We will survey a range of topics across contemporary social & feminist philosophy which engage with issues in the “core” analytic disciplines: philosophy of language, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, and philosophy of science. We will also discuss topics related to completing a PhD at UVA, as well as elements of professional engagement. The assignments in this course are designed to give students a good amount practice reading, writing, presenting, and discussing philosophy at the graduate level.
Philosophy of Sex, Sexuality, and Gender In this course we will survey a range of philosophical issues related to sex, sexuality, and gender.
